Chiharu Shiota – Museum Haus Konstruktiv dedicates the first solo exhibition in German-speaking Switzerland to the internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota (*1972 in Osaka, lives and works in Berlin). In addition to recent works on paper and sculptural objects, the space-encompassing thread installation Eye to Eye, created especially for the Zurich exhibition, will be on view.

The linking and interweaving of mostly red, black or white threads has occupied Shiota since the beginning of her artistic work. Driven and fascinated by existential themes such as fear, death and love and their subjective narratives, Shiota refers to the interwoven threads as symbols of complex interpersonal connections. As a result, her net-like structures, which she herself also understands as three-dimensional drawings, become metaphors for relationships of all kinds. Not infrequently, she weaves in objects associated with individual thought spaces or personal narratives, bringing fundamental themes of human existence into focus.
