– The first six months of operation of the new Zurich Convention Center are already mostly booked out. The first major event will take place on June 29, 2021: The Marketing Day, one of the most important events in the Swiss marketing industry. We spoke to Uwe Tännler, President of the organiser Swiss Marketing Forum, about uncertainty and anticipation.

Mr. Tännler, the Marketing Day of the Swiss Marketing Forum will be the first big event in the new Zurich Convention Center. How do you feel about it?

Extraordinary! We are delighted with the privilege of being able to hold the Marketing Day as a premiere event in the new Zurich Convention Center. Not only for me the new, the uncertain is appealing.

How did your stakeholders react to this change?

The response to the transfer to Zurich was very positive. The decision is considered by all stakeholders to be very innovative. The attitude is: we are in.

Why did you choose the Zurich Convention Center?

After 15 years in the KKL Lucerne, where we were able to celebrate great events and the Marketing Day developed into a showcase event, this virus 2020 has put a damper on our plans and we had to cancel the 2020 edition at very short notice. We used the time to look for new ideas and concepts. The postponement of the opening of the Zurich Convention Center and therefore the new date of 29 June 2021 came in very handy.
Now it's a matter of reinventing the Marketing Day, so to speak. For us, as in the past, the personal face-to-face experience is particularly important. The new infrastructure leaves many possibilities here.

What are you most looking forward to at the new location?

Everything is new - this is always a positive and exciting challenge. Creative and surprising ideas are required at all levels. Even in the run-up to the event, during the planning phase, which begins a good nine months before the event, there is a lot of excitement. The team, our partners, speakers, moderation, direction, technology and design are already working on new concepts. We are looking forward to an innovative marketing day that takes into account the current needs and conditions. As always, you can be excited!

Will the new Zurich Convention Center be a big surprise to you or were you able to look behind the scenes already?

We already had a look around the construction site at the beginning of the year. The basic concept convinced us. We were particularly impressed by the new rooms and the open terrace with a fantastic view of the lake. The incidence of light is an important factor, because it must be bright. Besides the program, our participants are used to excellent catering. We are looking forward to new ways with the Zurich Convention Center. We are also looking forward to the most modern technology available - here the Marketing Day has always set new standards.

The Marketing Day has been held annually since 2005 and, as a trend scout event, offers inputs on the future of marketing. The topic 2021 is «My Marketing Agenda 2021: FOCUS. More important than ever!»
